Renewal of four pitched roofs to an occupied residential block, with Sika liquid-applied systems to the dome dormers, box valleys and flat valley section. Works in progress.
Four pitched roof slopes are being renewed across the block, but the pitched areas are the straightforward part. What determines whether a roof like this stops leaking is the detailing around everything that interrupts it — a run of barrel-vaulted dome dormers, box valleys between the slopes, a flat valley section and the copings along the parapets.
Those details are being formed in Sika liquid-applied systems rather than sheet materials. A liquid system is cold-applied and seamless, so it can be taken continuously around the curved dormer roofs and into the valleys and upstands without the joints, welds or laps that are usually where a roof of this shape starts to fail.
The barrel-vaulted dormer roofs recovered in a Sika liquid-applied system — seamless over the curve, with no laps or welded joints on the most exposed part of the roof.
Box valleys, the flat valley section and the parapet copings all completed in Sika products, giving a continuous membrane through the details that collect the most water.
Full renewal of the rainwater goods, so the new roof discharges into new gutters and downpipes rather than into whatever survived the last one.
Renewal of the Velux rooflights is being carried out by others; our works are programmed around that so the roof is closed up in the right sequence.
